For the past week, black indigence of South Africa have been attacking foreign African nationals, mainly in Pretoria and Johannesburg, looting and burning shops owned by them in the wake of renewed xenophobic attacks.
Dozens of protesters have been arrested by police in South Africa during protests, claiming that the African foreigners especially Nigerians are taking over their jobs and are dealing in narcotics.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minority Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs wants more drastic sanctions to be taken against South African in the wake of renewed xenophobic clashes.
Currently, the Ghanaian Mission in South Africa is set to engage the South African government and other Missions in the country to find possible ways of ending the massacre.
However, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa says there are numerous diplomatic arsenals that can be deployed, and stripping South African off the Pan African Parliament can also help undermine the country`s reputation in the committee of, which can be a first step.
“It is important at this juncture that the African Union begins to consider stiffer measures especially as South Africa prepares to take over the chair of the Africa Union from next year. This cannot be an example that we should countenance or we should reward. Honestly, enough of the mere condemnation” he said.
