The Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS) have expressed their displeasure over a decision by the Ghana Education Service to reserve 30% slots in ‘Category A’ Senior High Schools for students from public Junior High Schools.

The Director general of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Prof. Kwesi Opoku Amankwaah in an interview on a sister station in Accra made it known that plans have advanced to carry out the 30% slot allocation process to all public SHS’s in the ‘Category A’ of the Computerized Schools Selection Placement Systems (CSSPS).

Speaking at a press conference held in Accra on Thursday, 14th April, 2022, the Secretary General of GNAPS, Mr. Justice Essel said the decision by the GES would enable more public schools students get upper hand over private students.

Adding that, it would also hinder the progress of teaching and learning in the various private schools.

The Greater Accra chairperson of GNAPS, Madam, Aisha Asi Akrofi revealed plans of taking legal steps against the Ghana Education Service if the decision is not rescinded.

“This is the beginning of something. If they don’t listen to us, we will send a petition then we follow it up.

“We are not under GES but under NACCIA, so anything that go to do with school placement should be done by an independent body, ” she said.

She also stated that, majority of private schools students perform better compared to the public schools students and plays a significant role in nation building.

“Our students always do better when they enter the public schools, so we could see the difference here, the private schools play a major role in the country’s educational systems,” she said.
