Following the death of the presidential candidate of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), in the person of Madam Akua Donkor, the Electoral Commission has hereby suspended the printing of presidential ballot papers.
Madam Akua Donkor, died on Monday (28 October 2024) at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital after a short illness.
She was among the 13 presidential candidates recently cleared by the Electoral Commission (EC) to stand in the 7 December general election.
The Electoral Commission has therefore urged the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) to nominate a new presidential candidate to lead the party ahead of the 7 December election.
“… the commission has since informed the GFP to make arrangements to nominate a new candidate and the the commission accordingly. In the meantime, the commission has suspended the printing of presidential ballot papers which was near completion,” a statement from the EC said on Tuesday (29 October).
