Personnel of GFPU-5 in Sector 4, Beletweyne, in conjunction with the Djibouti National Defence Force (DNDF), successfully provided maximum security escort and protection for a UNTMIS high-profile delegation to Goodir Mall, east of Beledweyne on Saturday, 8th August 2026 at about 0900 hours.
The visit was to attend a training programme for pastoral communities and farmers in Beledweyne District. The programme was organized by the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hirshabelle State, and the Ministry of Interior and Local Governance to improve farming, livestock management, disaster preparedness, food security, and responsible use of natural resources. Attendees included the Minister responsible for Livestock, Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim Yohamud, the Deputy Governor of Hiraan State for Political Affairs and Finance, government officials, community representatives, and training participants.
Prior to the movement, Escort Commander ASP Godwin Kwasi Amedzo conducted a parade briefing and outlined escort procedures. Personnel were reminded to remain vigilant, alert, and professional to ensure maximum protection and safety of the delegation in accordance with standard escort protocols. Following the briefing, the escort team proceeded with the UNTMIS delegation safely to the area of assignment.
During the programme, officials delivered remarks focused on protecting local livelihoods. The training covered livestock health, crop production, soil and water management, disaster preparedness, shared resources, and market access. Throughout the operation, GFPU-5 personnel maintained a high level of professionalism and ensured the smooth and peaceful conduct of the assignment without any security incident.
At about 1200 hours, the programme ended and GFPU-5 Beletweyne personnel safely escorted the delegation back from Goodir Mall without any security challenge.
In a debriefing after the assignment, the escort commander commended personnel for their vigilance, resilience, professionalism, and commitment throughout the escort engagement.
