UNDP DELEGATION VISITS GHANA DIGITAL CENTRES LIMITED

Representatives of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) visited the Ghana Digital Centres Limited (GDCL) on Thursday 18th August, 2022.


The delegation which was led by Dr. Eleni Gabre-Madhin, UNDP Africa’s Chief of Innovation met with a team from the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation led by the Deputy Minister, Honourable Ama Pomaah Boateng and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GDCL, Honourable Kwadwo Baah Agyemang and his management team.


The meeting focused on collaborating with GDCL on The Timbuktoo Initiative – a program aimed at investing one (1) billion dollars in catalytic and commercial capital over ten years to build a distributed innovation network of eight ( 8 ) Pan African Hubs including one in Ghana and addressing the gap in early stage risk capital while aiming to grow global – class startups and unlock the one Africa Market.

In his remarks, Honourable Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, highlighted the GDCL’s role in the growth of innovative startups in Ghana’s digital ecosystem and indicated the synergies between the Timbuktoo Initiative and the Ghana Digital Centres Limited.

Dr. Eleni Gabre-Madhin commended management for the Centre’s achievements including hosting governments innovation project and indicated UNDP’s plan to complement government’s efforts at supporting digital start ups in Ghana through the Timbuktoo Initiative.

On her part, the Honourable Deputy Minister for Communications and Digitalisation expressed her gratitude to the delegation for their visit and assured them of the government’s commitment to collaborating with UNDP to set up a Pan African Hub at the Accra Digital Centre.

The visit comes at a time GDCL is intensifying collaborations with key stakeholders to identify and create opportunities that accelerate growth of digital start ups in line with its mandate of driving digital innovation and entrepreneurship in Ghana’s technology ecosystem.
